encyclopedia of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (The A to Z of Bioinformatics)

A warm welcome to the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (The A to Z of Bioinformatics) from the Editors in Chief, Shoba Ranganathan, Kenta Nakai, Michael Gribskov and Christian Schönbach.

This publication will be an essential compendium for analyzing data from biological, biotechnological and biomedical Big Data for genetics, genomics, proteomics and personalized medicine.

Navigating the maze of confusing and often contradictory jargon combined with a plethora of software tools is often confusing for students and researchers alike. This comprehensive and unique resource provides up-to-date theory and application content to address molecular data analysis requirements, with precise definition of terminology, and lucid explanations by experts.

This Encyclopedia comprises three sections, covering Theory, Topics and Applications, with a special focus on Integrative –omics and Systems Biology. The theoretical methodology underpinning BCB are described in the Theory section, with Topics covering traditional areas such as phylogeny, as well as more recent areas such as translational bioinformatics, cheminformatics and environmental informatics. Finally, Applications provides guidance for commonly asked “how to” questions.

The Work will publish both as a Major Reference Work entitled Encyclopedia of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, and as an integral component of Elsevier’s Life Sciences Reference Module. The Reference Module is a modular Work which permits the publication of individual articles. In this way the constituent Major Reference Work articles can be published as soon as they are available rather than waiting for the complete work to be received. Once articles are ingested into the Reference Module, they are available to the Subscribers to that Work. Once all of the articles for the Work have been finalized, the Work will be published.

We are now in the process of inviting authors to join the project, and look forward to working with you.
